Rapid Prototyping Pioneer

Barron Industries was one of the first companies in our industry to employ rapid prototyping, which takes computer-generated 3D designs and quickly transforms them into patterns for casting. No tooling is involved. Rapid prototyping models can be produced in only a few hours, castings delivered in as little as one week, allowing customers to test parts and make changes before incurring any final production tooling costs.

Rapid Prototyping Process

Rapid prototyping takes virtual designs from computer aided design (CAD) or animated modeling software and transforms them into patterns used for metal investment casting. Because a computer program transforms the math data directly into a prototype part, no tooling is involved.

The word “rapid” is relative. Contemporary methods of model construction can take several weeks, depending on the methods used and the complexity of the part. The rapid prototyping process typically produces models within a few hours/days, thus allowing customers to check and test parts and make the necessary changes before incurring any tooling costs for final production.
